An anal fistula is an abnormal communication between the anal canal and the perianal skin. It is formed as a result of purulent processes in the anal area. Abscesses, and as a consequence anal fistula can originate from anal glands, sweat glands, pilonidal cyst, diverticulosis or Crohn’s disease.

Laser closure of the perianal fistula is the minimally invasive and low complication rate procedure preserving anal sphincter function. First step of procedure includes insertion of special rubber loop through the fistula. Then, the laser fiber is inserted into the fistula canal. Light beam produced by the laser gradually obliterates the canal of fistula. At the end, the internal orifice of perianal fistula is closed with the surgical suture.

Laser closer of anal fistula is highly comfortable procedure for patients that does not carry the risk of anal sphincter injury. However, it should be remembered that not every fistula can be treated with laser therapy. In such cases, surgical procedures are performed. Every case is considered individually during the consultation with proctologist.
