Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat and restores abdominal muscles.

Who is a candidate?

The patients are both, men and women in relatively good body shape. The purpose of the abdominoplasty is to improve the aesthetic of abdominal wall. It may be also a part of panniculectomy that removes the excessive hanging skin and fat called “pannus” or “apron”.

Before the surgery

The plastic surgeon will thoroughly analyze your body shape and abdominal tissues. Your medical history will also be taken into account including:

  • pregnancy,
  • weight loss or gain,
  • previous abdominal surgery.

You will also receive detailed information that will help you to properly prepare for the procedure. It includes:

  • quitting smoking,
  • list of contraindicated drugs,
  • proper wound care technique,
  • eating and drinking restrictions day before the surgery.

The course of the surgery

Your plastic surgeon will discuss your concerns and expectations regarding the surgery. There are several types of abdominoplasty that differ in lines of surgical incisions and different methods for abdominal muscles repair. Based on the examination and interview, the plastic surgeon will decide which procedure will be the most appropriate in your case.
The planned cutting lines will be marked before the surgery.

Type of the anesthesia

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia.

After the surgery

After the surgery is over, a compression garment or dressing will be placed in the operated area. The recovery period will take approximately 14 days.

Expected results

The abdominoplasty result in younger and more attractive shape of the abdomen.
